It looks like iPhoto ’09’s face recognition is based on code from Omron.
Meanwhile, Fraser Speirs compares iPhoto ’09’s flickr export with his own FlickrExport plugin, and finds iPhoto to be lacking in several areas (at least until iPhoto ‘10, at least).

Although for a while there have been unofficial ways to get books printed from iPhoto in Australia, printing of Books and Calendars is now officially supported in Australia with iPhoto ‘08 (if you order anything please feel free to comment and let us know how it goes).
You will need to run Software Update to get iPhoto 7.1.2 though.

The very cool Eye-Fi wireless memory card is now available (at least to those in the US). With 2Gb of RAM for photos, and a WiFi card built in you can upload photos directly to your Mac or PC (I believe it was demoed at WWDC uploading into iPhoto directly). Or you can upload to the Eye-Fi service and into your favourite photo site (Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa, Facebook, etc.)
